Jedi Mind Trick 2: Ambiguities
September 25, 2009

Ambiguities are words that have 2 or more different meanings.

Usually the conscious mind hears one meaning & the unconscious mind something completely different!

What are examples of these ambiguities which are used in hypnosis?

Words like:

son / sun
red / read
write / right / rite

And really importantly for sales:

by, bye & buy

How do we use them?

Well here is an example:

“By now you’re probably beginning to imagine how impressed your colleagues are going to be with your decision.”

This embedded the command in the unconscious mind of “Buy Now” as in “get your money out and start buying now”

This works even better if you leave a slight pause after saying “By now” to give it even more emphasis.

Again remember that these commands are very powerful & so must only be used for a mutual win – win situation.

If you know that what you are selling is going to give a positive benefit to your prospect & that it is a fair price then the odd embedded command can help speed the selling process up!

Next week we will look at tag questions – That will be fun, won’t it

Bye now :-)

The Richest Man in Babylon
September 22, 2009

richestmaninbab

The Richest Man in Babylon first appeared on the scene in 1926 as a series of informational pamphlets on basic financial management. By 1927, several of these pamphlets had been compiled into a book and this collection has been in print ever since.

In short, The Richest Man in Babylon is a series of financial parables. These stories are set in ancient Babylon and relate the story of a Babylonian regular guy who used some basic financial sense and built up a great deal of wealth.

What’s so great about that, you ask? The stories are laid out like Aesop’s fables: each story has a concrete point or two that becomes apparent from reading and digesting the message. These points are basic tenets of how to get ahead financially in any time, not just in Babylonian times or in the 1920s.

This book is perfect if you learn by reading the experiences of others. The entire book is told in a story-like format, so it often goes down much like reading a collection of short stories. The language is a bit strange, as the author attempts to sound like this is an authentic tale from the ancient days, but the messages are as clear as sunlight.

Seven Cures for a Lean Purse

Since The Richest Man in Babylon is divided up into several short stories of varying degrees of quality, I thought I would review in great detail the one story that I found the most compelling.

The tale “Seven Cures for a Lean Purse” relates a story about Arkad, the titular richest man in Babylon. He is requested by the king to teach a class to anyone who wishes to attend on the methods he used to build his wealth. He divides this class across seven days, with each day focusing on a particular method for saving money. Here are the seven methods.

Start thy purse to fattening Take one-tenth of what you bring in and save it for the future. The book uses a coin analogy: for every nine coins you spend, take one and put it away for yourself. This is very sensible; a goal all of us should have.

Control thy expenditures Don’t buy frivolous things even if you have enough money to pay for them. Instead, make sure that you can continue to save one-tenth of what you bring in. For this reason, I write about frugality on The Simple Dollar.

Make thy gold multiply Once you start to build up some savings, invest that money so that it will make more money for you. Another pretty clear point; if you start saving money, it shouldn’t just sit in a mattress. Even a high-yield savings account is much better than that, and it can double your principal in about fifteen years.

Guard thy treasure from loss This one is interesting: you should only invest in things where the principal is safe. In other words, the book seems to discourage stock investing. I found this to be particularly interesting given that it was written in 1927, right in the midst of the first big American stock market boom. Of course, 1929 proved the author right.

Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment One should own their own home rather than renting because then money can be invested in the home or invested in other things rather than handed over to the landlord. Something tells me that this lesson applied better before people were looking at homes that were three or four times their annual income.

Insure a future income In other words, invest for retirement and your family’s well being after your passing. You should be dropping some Hamiltons right into your retirement account if you can possibly afford it.

Increase thy ability to earn Work hard, look for opportunities, and educate yourself. Today, a college education is one of the best investments you can make; I’m not saying that it’s a requirement to be successful, but it opens the door to greater possibilities.

The Five Laws of Gold

Another story central to The Richest Man in Babylon is the tale of the five laws of gold, a five-point philosophy handed down to later generations by Arkad, the titular richest man in Babylon. Here are the five laws, with discussion of what they mean in a modern context.

1. Gold cometh gladly and in increasing quantity to any man who will put by not less than one-tenth of his earnings to create an estate for his future and that of his family. In other words, a person should put away 10% of his or her income for the future as a bare minimum. This rule is so incredibly fundamental, yet only a small minority even bother to follow it.

2. Gold laboreth diligently and contentedly for the wise owner who finds for it profitable employment, multiplying even as the flocks of the field. If you invest your money well, your money will simply make more money. Again, a very simple and obvious rule, but one that many people never get to because they didn’t follow the first rule.

3. Gold clingeth to the protection of the cautious owner who invests it under the advice of men wise in its handling. This rule encourages cautious investing, or at least encourages the investor to at least be informed. In today’s era, one can turn to the internet for plenty of investing information.

4. Gold slippeth away from the man who invests it in businesses or purposes with which he is not familiar or which are not approved by those who are skilled in its keep. This goes hand in hand with the third rule: if you invest in stuff you don’t understand, you’re likely to lose money. Don’t buy the latest hot stock from your stockbroker; investigate and invest where you want.

5. Gold flees the man who would force it to impossible earnings or who followeth the alluring advice of tricksters and schemers or who trusts it to his own inexperience and romantic desires in investment. The worst option is to invest in anything that promises absurdly good returns, or anything that you’re heavily pressured into buying. These investments are scams and won’t stand up to serious research.

The five rules really are all you need to know: save some money, do some research, and only invest in the fruits of that research. Anything else is a sure way to fall behind.

Other Tales

The remainder of the book is loaded with similar tales, teaching basic principles of personal finance using stories from Old Babylon. Here are some of the other teachings found in the book:

A Part Of All You Earn Is Yours To Keep This is a hard lesson for many of us to learn, as most of us are ardent consumerists who are trained to spend from earliest childhood. The truth is that we need to learn to always pay ourselves before we pay our debtors – once we do that, we’ll be on the road to financial success.

Men Of Action Are Favored By The Goddess Of Good Luck I found this principle to be quite interesting, but also quite accurate. At first, you might take it to think that people who gamble sometimes end up big winners, but that’s not what this is all about. What the rule is saying is that people who succeed are the ones that do something. Even the most conservative of investments will pay better than cash stuffed in a mattress for a rainy day. If you do something, something will happen.

Better A Little Caution Than A Great Regret On the other hand, if you push too hard, you can get burnt. Highly speculative investments can turn around and bite you hard, leaving you as if you had never invested at all. Respect your principal and it will respect you by earning well; toss it to the wolves and you may get nothing back.

We Cannot Afford To Be Without Adequate Protection Retirement savings and insurance are both vital to ensuring that major accidents don’t derail everything that we do. If you don’t have these tools, a disaster can befall you, leaving you completely helpless.

Where The Determination Is, The Way Can Be Found Don’t give up on investing just because the road is bumpy. If you keep at it, eventually you will find a path to success. This is true no matter what you’re doing – persistence pays off time and time again.

Nice quick and easy read book that makes a lot of sense!

Why women are attracted to bad boys, thugs, and players
September 21, 2009

Men are confused about what women want in a dating relationship – no surprise there. However one of the chief things single men are confused about is the conflict between what single women say they want in a man vs. what they are attracted to. Like a moth to a flame, women are drawn to thugs, bad boys and players. Here’s why.

With a Choice between Erkel and a Thug, Erkel Would Lose

Next to the subject of Global Warming, this has been one of the most debated topics in recent memory. The definition of “nice guy” is very subjective, and has an association related to personal perception, regardless of gender.

If you look at the movies, television sitcoms, novels, and society overall, you can see that the men that excite women all have the same common denominator: the guys that go against the grain.

Regardless of race, genre, or era, this is the type of guy that women attach a high romantic value to. Clyde in “Bonnie and Clyde”, Rambo, even Bluto. Men such as these take chances (some wise, some not so smart), and live on the edge. They take pleasure in pushing the envelope and deviating from conventional behaviours. They go after what they want with a focus and determination that women find extremely exciting.

These men are not afraid to shock the sensibilities of others, make mistakes, nor to generate social or personal disdain. So when a woman says that a man is “too nice,” what she really means is that this particular guy lacks the sexual charisma, charm, or whatever it is that makes that particular woman feel hot and horny and interested.

Whenever someone refers to a man as “too nice,” it translates in women’s minds to “doormat!” which will sap the sexual tension right out of any woman. Most women love to see a man who has a backbone, beliefs that he stands by, who won’t put up with any of her nonsense, and that will call her out on her stuff when he feels she’s out of line. He has to turn her on visually as well.

Pimp Pimp Hooray!

A lot of what women like about thugs and players is the energy they exude as men. Let’s say we have a geeky but attractive young professional male that wears Hugo Boss suits and ties to work. Women in his office building say he is handsome, funny and interesting.  Let’s say we add an earring and put him in the latest hip hop gear (you know, the baggy stuff that the nice guys hate). Chances are great that  the same professional women who found him attractive as a suited businessman would also find him irresistible as a thug, because they are attracted to his male energy.  He would also draw the attention of younger women that are attracted to his energy and his youthful “gear.”

Ronald is a 28 year old IT professional with a Masters degree in Computer Science. He agrees with the assessment above: “I’ve experimented with this issue before. I’m able to pull more women in Sean Jean or Coogi than when I’m in my shirt and tie.”

Men, genetically hardwired to place a very high value on sexual enjoyment, should be able to understand that women feel sexual desire and want to be able to enjoy sex. It’s impossible to choose a man who leaves a woman feeling sexually cold and dissatisfied over a thug who makes her heart race and her imagination come alive with erotic possibilities. It’s the equivalent of a man preferring to be with a cheating gold digger that rocks his world in bed, vs. a really nice 300 lb women with a good heart.

Release the Freak

All women have a little bad girl inside that would, with the right motivation and encouragement, love to break free. A woman needs a man who can complement that side of her.

And no, the opposite of a “too nice” guy does not have to be a straight thug. It’s frustrating that nice guys tend to see the world in such black and white, polar opposite ways. In reality, there is a whole range of men in between the two extremes… in the gray area.

However, a man allows himself to be taken advantage of by women from his past, family members, or coworkers and fails to stand up for himself would lose respect in most women’s eyes. If he failed to stand up for himself and didn’t put folks in check that crossed boundaries (without being rude or threatening violence of course) he would be dismissed as “too nice.” If he were ineffectual with his ex-wife and allowed her to run over him and interfere with the discipline and rules of the household he established to raise their children, or if he failed to establish himself as a force to be respected and reckoned with as a man period, most women would say he was “too nice.”

The man that a woman deems to be “too nice” does not, by her individual standards, present himself as the image of masculine power, strength, confidence, charisma, energy, sexuality, decisiveness, or character.

Too nice also means:

  • You are a wimp in that woman’s eyes… milquetoast, sensitive and soft like a woman.
  • you are confused about what to do and how to do it to protect yourself when you see a game being run.
  • you have low self esteem and don’t demand respect from the women you date in an effort to please, which comes across as grovelling.
  • you are always there for people that are never there for you. Too nice means your family knows you are an easy tap for rent money after they spent theirs gambling in Reno.
  • your boss has no problem calling you in do work and assignments on the weekend, even though s/he knows you have plans with your family.

Is There Really Such a Thing as The Man You Love Being “Too Nice?”

It is true that some women will confuse the caring guy that loves her (such as the one I described above who doesn’t let anyone take advantage of him) with the guy that is “too nice,” but that’s generally due to low self esteem and a belief that she doesn’t deserve better. Ultimately, something is intrinsically wrong a woman who thinks of herself in this manner.

Smart women don’t care for the hot headed, dictatorial, insecure about his manhood, always feeling like he has to prove that he’s “da man,” type of guy generally associated with the word “thug.” You don’t have to be a smart-mouthed, violent knucklehead to avoid being labelled “too nice,” but you definitely have to be a man about yours.

Women want a versatile, confident and secure man that can handle himself on the basketball court, in the boardroom and in the bedroom. Women love a responsible, mature man who is appreciative of family, and respectful of women, children, people and life. Women want a guy with intelligence and education, balanced with common sense and street smarts.

Women love a nice guy with a little thug in him.

Jedi Mind Trick 1: Embedded Commands
September 18, 2009

Would you like to know a Jedi mind trick to use that helps you influence people into your way of thinking?

Strictly speaking these are known as “Embedded Commands” & they go straight to the unconscious mind. This means that they are very powerful because the prospects conscious, analytical mind is by-passed!

Because of this it is essential that you use them ethically as remember:

“If a dog bites you once it is the dogs fault, if it bites you twice it is your fault!”

This means that you might get away with stitching up your target once, but they will probably let you get away with it  again.

So handle with care!!

There are many different ways of embedding commands. The first ones I want to look at are called “Negative Commands” & they work on the principal that it is impossible for the human mind to process a negative.

Lets try an experiment on this:

As you read this what ever you do, do not think of a blue sheep!

What happened – You thought of a blue sheep didn’t you!

You see the thing is you have to think of a blue sheep first to know not to think of one.

So how do we use this to embed commands?

Well you express something as negative when you really want your prospect to think of it as being positive.

Here is an example:

“I’m not going to say that the Chilled Out Life Program is the best training homes study course that you will ever buy, because that is a decision you have to make yourself.”

What have I actually said in this statement?

I have embedded the command in my prospects mind that the Chilled Out Life Program is the best home study course that they will ever buy!

Here is another example:

“This is not the best car in the world, but it is pretty close!

Get the idea?

What Are Stress Statistics and How Can They Help With Building Self-Confidence?
September 18, 2009

To answer this question about stress statistics, quite bluntly, everyone, Stress is a universal condition that is known around the world. Affecting many different people in just as many different ways, such as building self-confidence, stress has become one of the top health issues in the world today.

Who Suffers From Stress?

A study that was released in 2005 by the American Psychological Association presented some very startling stress related statistics. It found that the six leading causes of death at that time, accidents, suicide, lung ailments, heart disease, cancer, and cirrhosis of the liver, could all be linked back to stress. At that time stress-related issues were the reasons for a full two thirds of visits to the family doctor. Sixty four percent of Americans were working on lowering the amount of stress that they dealt with on a daily basis.

The study also concluded that adverse health issues in forty three percent of adults could be related back to the stress in their lives. Since the time of that study there have been improvements in how doctor’s properly identify negative stressors and diagnose stress related issues. The numbers to day would probably be much more startling.

Global Stress Issues

While it may always seem that we have it rough here at home stress is a worldwide issue. Speaking on a global scale stress touches nearly every home no matter how big or how small. According to a study that was done by the Foundation for Integrated Research In Mental Health in 2007 some numbers stood out quite starkly.

They found that on a global scale more than three fifths of all doctor visits were from issues due to stress. They also found that when examined globally almost a quarter of business executives and professionals reported extremely high levels of stress.

When broken down by gender it was found that the women reported generally higher levels than their male counterparts. One issue that has played a large part in the enormous increases in stress related illness has been the need for mothers to enter the workforce. The same study found that the highest levels of stress worldwide were felt by mothers who had children that were less than thirteen years old and were required to work full time.

It also found that out of these mothers one in four of them dealt with stress on nearly a daily basis. The world economy has become a much more harsh environment than it once was. By placing a demand on mothers requiring them to have to work as well as taking care of the family it has caused the number of stress related issues to skyrocket.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Having gathered, sorted, and quantified the data what do researchers intend to do with the information? With the changing nature of stress according to each person’s tactile environment it is extremely difficult to know when or even if a solution to the problem of stress will ever be at hand. The main drive of researchers is currently focused on treating the symptoms of stress as well as the harmful effects that stress can cause.

Maybe one day we will reach a point where stress can be a treatable or even curable condition. Until then we each must hold on the best we can and reach for better days.
